WEST AFRICAN D.A.N.C.E. (DYNAMIC AFRICAN NARRATIVES IN CREATIVE EXPRESSION) CLUB

The West African D.A.N.C.E. Club is a student-led club dedicated to celebrating the richness and diversity of African cultures across the globe. A collective space where students explore the powerful traditions of the West African Diaspora through dance, drumming, music, and art. Rooted in the experiences and expressions of the African Diaspora, our united mission is to: ignite conversations, foster understanding,  inspire and learn through dance, music, art and community engagement,
At the heart of our work is a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive space where students can explore the powerful traditions of the West African Diaspora. Through the hands-on art projects, immersive dance workshops with professional companies, masterclasses with renowned drummers, and talks from cultural leaders and artists, we aim to build bridges between the past and present, rhythm and movement, history and imagination. Everyone is welcome and included.
We create with the ancient African saying in mind: "If you can walk,...you can dance. If you can talk... you can sing" and everything in between. Our vision is to cultivate a community where creativity, culture, and curiosity intersect - where students of all backgrounds can connect through the shared language of art, movement, and music. Whether you are an experienced dancer, curious learner, or an artist seeking new inspiration, this D.A.N.C.E. club welcomes you to move, create, and celebrate with us.
We warmly welcome students of all cultures and backgrounds to join us in this journey of history and belonging. We can’t wait to meet you!

Preamble: We, the students of the West African D.A.N.C.E. Club (Dynamic African Narratives In Creative Expression) Inter-Club Council, have come together to promote student engagement by creating safe, inclusive, and diverse communities—formed around shared interests and passions—where students can connect, learn, and grow through the exploration of history, dance, and music-based art forms for all students within the Sonoma County Junior College District (SCJCD). We recognize the importance of being actively involved in the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) community, and promote student engagement through our clubs. As clubs we strive to promote the general welfare of our students, our college, and our community.
